Wear it more than one way

Have you ever been in a style rut? looked in your closet and pull out the same outfit every single time? Maybe you feel creative one day and wear that drab outfit with a piece of different jewelry but still don't feel as sexy as you do when you put on a new outfit? I have been there! I have looked at all my basic tops and just worn them by themselves and looked so drab but i say "no more!" Here are a few tips on turning a basic  into something a little more.

As I said, jewelry is a great option, right now big bulky statement necklaces and big earrings are the go-to accessory. Of course the J.crew bubble necklace is still huge..
sweet

Or try an option like this..

Cute outfit..

When I worked retail as a student I was told that we should have at least two-three layers on top. This has helped me to pick out outfits ever since. So instead of just throwing on that tank top or plain tee, throw on another layer. Say a cardigan, a vest, a blazer, sweater or denim jacket. This really adds visual interest to your shirt. Go the extra mile and pair that combination with a statement necklace and/or belt and you have yourself a cute new outfit.

white blazer + neutral top + dark denim + neutral pumps

striped shirt under solid sweater!

I love a great sweater over a patterned shirt!

cute

F21 skirt
I love how Lilly pairs her basic top with a vest and a belt for added detail.

Yellow leggings !
This gal takes her solid dress and improves it with a cardigan, belt and bright tights with boots. What could have been seen as a blah dress is turned into an entirely different outfit. How many dresses do you have like this at home?
Cardigan as main layer, love it.
Try wearing a cardigan as the first layer as this model does here...Very cute!

Always wear jeans with a particular top? Try spicing it up with a different shade (so many color options these days) or wear it with a printed skirt or under a dress with bright accessories and shoes!

adorable
Try rolling your jeans up a little at the bottom for a little ooph..like Kelly Ripa
watermelon and yellow

such a cute outfit

Or simply throw on a scarf and a pair of hot shoes!

Stop looking at that same old piece as the same old outfit and you'll watch your wardrobe expand!

It's True What They Say...

When I first started this blog my intention was to blog all things fashion and fashion includes makeup, right? I am a little late to jump on the band wagon but I have to share my own rave about the Revlon Lip Butter.
Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter

I recently got a giftcard to one of my favorite makeup stores- Ulta for my birthday and I knew just what I was going to try based on all the latest raves on Youtube and blogs everywhere. Amarixie provides a wonderful review on these products. Including swatches, you gotta check it out! Anyways...

I picked up a few colors as they were buy 2 get 1 free $7.49 each (still going on this week) I picked up Strawberry Shortcake, Candy Apple, and Creme Brulee. They come in about 20 shades so I picked up one in pink, nude, and red.

Naturally I have been gravitating to pinks and nudes and Strawberry Shortcake is the perfect pick. Its not too blue or too dark its just wonderful especially for me because it provides the perfect shade of pink on my pigmented lips. I also have had really dry lips and lipstick is very hard for me to wear as it dries them out but not with these sticks. They are more of a chapstick and a lipstick in one!!! They moisterize but provide beautiful color the best of both worlds. Creme Brulee is a wonderful nude and looks amazing with a bronzed face and gold/brown shadow. love it!!! Not sticky and they smell vanilla-y too!

My latest rave though has to be the Candy Apple! I never wear red lipstick, I have always felt that the color was never right or that I had to wear a primer and use a lip liner to get that perfect pout. Not with these!!! This color is gorgeous!!! Its easy to apply and looks fantastic with a neutral face.

Have you tried these? What are your favorite shades?! I am totally coming back for more, I'm thinking raspberry pie next!!!

Modest Focus

As an LDS woman with an eye toward fashion I have found that finding modest clothing is difficult to come by but modest AND trendy clothing is even more of a challenge. While living in Utah I have discovered that many ways to make an outfit modest is through adding a few key pieces to the wardrobe.

  • Those include:
  • Cap sleeve t-shirts
  • Leggings
  • Cardigans/jackets/blazers
  • Long sleeve shirts
  • Skirt extenders

Coral and aqua, colors are wayy cute together. I'd personally prefer white skinnies over the blue jeans.
These helpful wardrobe extenders can make the most of what you already have or they can increase your wardrobe- buying experience knowing that you can wear that tank top, tube top dress, or the shorter that knee-length skirt.

At SHY boutique it is my focus to bring trendy fashion to the modest individual but also serve the rest of the stylish young women. If you see that piece you love such as this tube top dress and notice it is short too, do not disregard it..
It can be worn with skinny jeans and a cardigan or over a cap sleeve tee with leggings.

Love the skirt but think it will be too short? There are wonderful skirt extender options Like this one from the etsy shop A Slip Shop to add a little lace and length to the skirt you are drooling over.

Extender Slip: Black Venice Lace

I am trying my best to keep every option at least knee-length so you can feel confident when you buy from SHY boutique. Have a great day and look forward to more inventory soon!!

How to: Wear Colored Skinny Jeans

I often hear people ask me how they would wear their colored skinny jeans/shorts with more than just a white shirt. Well I am here to answer that question. We can find inspiration all over the internet from Pinterest and fashion bloggers like the ladies on my sidebar. Here are a few photos to get you inspired and a few tips on getting into your own closet to find that you have more to wear with those skinny jeans than you thought.

Audrey from Putting me Together pairs here colored bottoms with an adorable and casual blue and white gingham shirt. I know many of you have a checkered or solid button up laying around.. dont be afraid to pair it with a random color. Color Blocking is so in right now so give it a shot, it doesn't have to match!

Lauryn of Love Notes by Lauryn mentions that french pink and mint go together perfectly. Check out this color combo! You can Find mint skinny jeans at SHY Boutique!

On Pinterest this outfit is a winner in my book. I love the blue button up shirt with colored bottoms you could also try a chambray shirt. You can find blush pink skinnies at SHY Boutique!
love.

Look how this model wears multiple colors! Remember to keep the pieces solid if you are going to mix as many as she did, too many patterns, prints, textures, and colors will be overwhelming to the eye.

,

I am head over heels for a fitted blazer but a blazer and cropped colored skinnies is an A+.
i need colored pants!

This blogger keeps it matchy but fun while mixing prints in the same colors. Her patterned shirt has bits of yellow, blue, and white. The key to mixing patterns is to mix the size of the pattern as she does here. Small printed shirt and a large stripe printed cardigan. She nails this look with some yellow jeans. Do you like this look?

yellow. blue. boots.

If that wasn't inspiration enough to get yourself to SHY Boutique and grab a pair of skinny jeans or a Neon Orange pencil skirt ...
Knee Length Pencil Skirt

...then this will!
Need all of these.

Now take the leap and see how many ways these beautiful bottoms can be worn. Dont forget to shop SHY Boutique where we never order the same things twice, so if you like what you see.. Get it before its GONE!

This is even better when put together with a simple cardigan or leggings for a covered up look or simply bare those shoulders and legs on a date or at a picnic.

I love all the colors too because it can be worn with so many cardigans and shoes you already have in your closet. I would love to see this dress with a thick or skinny belt around the waist for definition.
